Overview

The Uganda National Civil Society Fair 2011 is a mode of interaction that brings the private sector, NGOs, government and the public together for a period of 3 days as a civil participation event. It involves showcasing any development initiatives, workshops, interactive displays, panel discussions,  and a networking café.

The 2011 Event will be on  6th-7th June 2011. The Fair is being organized as part of the stock taking of the country’s MDG campaign and the civil society contribution to the development process of Uganda.

National Tertiary Net Careers Guidance Fair  2012 (NATECAGE)

Theme: “Transforming Societies through Careers Guidance in Uganda”

Why the Fair:

Many young people around the world are eager to join high institutions of learning and in Africa, it brings with it lost of excitement after high school. The Commonwealth Association-Uganda and the Friends of the Commonwealth-Uganda Chapter in partnership with the UN Association –Uganda, BDE Consults and other key stakeholders are now proposing to organize the first ever National Tertiary Net Careers Guidance Fair (NATECAGE) in 2012 in Kampala during the opening on the new academic year for all tertiary institutions in the country. The GoU represented by the Ministry of Education & Sports is supportive of this initiative.

The fair is targeting young people aged 17-30 years in and out of school, educational administrators, employers, cultural & religious institutions, CSOs/NGOs, Government line agencies, development partners, the media, the private sector and it’s proposed to be held in Kampala in November 2012. The NATECAGE is a registered legal entity under the Commonwealth Peoples’ Association-Uganda (CPAUG) www.cpaug.org and is being organized in partnership with the Friends of the Commonwealth -Uganda (MUK) Chapter, MoES, BDE Consult, Elmot Ltd, and the United Nations Association-Uganda (UNAU).

The fair will have workshops, interactive displays, panel discussions and a networking café during the 3 days.

Purpose: The ultimate goal of this fair is to build a strong constituency of active youth in development in Uganda and the EAC beyond school in transforming societies.

The Objectives of the Fair are:

1.      To facilitate the flow of information to the students and other young professionals seeking for work and better education;

2.      To initiate a one-stop information hub on the available career opportunities for young people pre- and post school in Uganda;

3.      To get all the players in the job market and education sector  to meet and share experiences;

4.      To address the challenges faced by students seeking higher education and job opportunities;

5.      To initiate an annual careers fair in Uganda; and

6.      To initiate an annual Presidential lecture for tertiary institutions in Uganda with the aim of building a strong bond between the students and the State.

Activities:

A 3 day Exhibition with interactive sessions;

A Students’ Street Careers Caravan (Careers on the Wheels);

A Careers Guidance Forum with renowned motivational speakers, Awards and a media campaign.

Who Can Participate:

The fair is open to;-

a)      Students;

b)      Graduates;

c)      Employers-public and private sector, CSOs/NGOs, development partners, corporates,                           Government departments and agencies; parastatals; cultural and religious institutions;

Registration Forms and participation costs for the fair can be obtained from the Fair Secretariat in Kampala and at designated points country wide. Forum participation is on first come first serve basis as places are limited
